Professor receives The Order of Arts and Letters

On October 28, 2014, Professor Jana Revedin received The Order of Arts and Letters from the French Minister of Culture, Fleure Pellerin. The motivation follows “for a pioneer engagement for sustainability and humanistic ethics in Architecture, Urban Planning and Literature.”

The Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) was established in 1957 to recognize eminent artists and writers, as well as people who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world. The Order of Arts and Letters is given out three times annually under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Culture and Communication. American recipients of the award include Paul Auster, Ornette Coleman, Agnes Gund, Marilyn Horne, Jim Jarmusch, Richard Meier, Robert Paxton, Robert Redford and Meryl Streep.

‒ This decoration knights my work in research, pedagogy and writing. I am deeply honored by the recognition of my lifelong apprenticeship in architecture as the creator of collective memory and in  literature as the key to individual memory.
